Tiger Writing: Art, Culture, and the Interdependent Self with Author Gish Jen and Maxine Hong Kingston

Tuesday, Apr 16, 2013 6:00p

Tiger Writing is a lively blend of family history, cultural criticism, and meditations on Gish Jen’s life as the daughter of Chinese immigrant parents, reflecting on Eastern and Western ideas of self and how they intersect. She explores how contrasting values of originality and authenticity, morality and cultural continuity are expressed in her work. Her insights celebrate the writer’s process of self examination and creation. Gish Jen in conversation with poet Maxine Hong Kingston.
