Afro-Indie Soul
Bells emerges from the vibrant cultural… Show more and musical backdrop of Oakland, CA. Blending heavy percussion, soulful vocal harmonies, and thoughtful arrangements, this dynamic group has arrived at a sound that is uniquely their own, calling it Afro-Indie Soul. They capture the spirit of an eclectic range of influences, including Highlife, Hip-Hop, Samba, R&B and aspects of Indie Pop. Quickly drawing a wide audience with diverse tastes, they are close to finishing their first full-length album, intent on providing their listeners with an experience that incessantly grabs the ear and evokes relentless body movement. The band is made up of 4 musicians who each impart a unique and vibrant essence: Nigerian-American artist Sandra Lawson-Ndu breathes life into the group with a rare creative force all her own, providing enigmatic lead vocals, captivating live looping, and an innovative sense of rhythm and composition. Doug Stuart, bassist and vocalist, pulls from his Soul, Jazz and Afro-beat roots to deliver the band’s music with contagious bass lines and a warm, fresh approach to feel and harmony. With tasteful musicality, guitarist Derek Barber compliments Bell’s songs with polished, infectious guitar stylings, background vocals and a broad scope of ideas. Completing the lineup is Geneva Harrison, who carefully crafts a symbiosis between drums, percussion, vocal harmonies, and hypnotic vibraphone phrasing, while seamlessly tapping into a distinct knack for groove with fluidity, drive and at times, ragged grit. Combining forces, Bells presents a compelling chemistry that will be sure to grip the listener from start to finish, piloting an incredible journey for everyone to experience.
