In observance of Black History Month, Bill Doggett will present a program on AA singers in SF, complete with rare historical ephemera/recordings.
Learn about the challenges faced by black singers at the time of Jim Crow, and how
SF became a welcoming destination, irrespective of race, plus the SF arts scene during
the Pan Pacific Intl Expo,and the emergence of tenor Roland Hayes, and SF Opera’s nurturing of important young AA singers,
including Mattiwilda Dobbs, and the great Leontyne Price.
