Barantschik and Vinocour play Britten's Double

Saturday, Jun 8, 2013 8:00p
Davies Symphony Hall San Francisco, CA

Britten composed the concerto for violin and his own instrument, viola, at 18; its youthful vigor will challenge the virtuosity of the SFS’s Concertmaster and Principal Violist. Sibelius was not given to lengthy explanations of his works; after all, he believed “Music begins where the possibilities of language end.” Nonetheless, he called his heroic Second Symphony “a confession of the soul.”
