"The Melting Polar Ice Caps," public lecture by Gerald and Judith Porter
Dr. Kenneth M. Golden of the University of Utah will talk about "The Melting Polar Ice Caps." In the summer of 2012, the area of the Arctic Ocean covered by sea ice reached its lowest level ever recorded in more than three decades. This lecture will discuss mathematical models of composite materials and statistical physics being used to study key sea ice processes such as its freezing and melting. Video from recent Antarctic expeditions to measure related sea ice properties will be shown.
