33rd Annual San Diego Jazz Fest

The San Diego Jazz Fest, Nov. 21-25. Discerning jazz fans call the San Diego Jazz Fest "the crown jewel of jazz festivals." The event is held during the Thanksgiving weekend at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center, in San Diego. The SDTDJF is a favorite of festival-goers from around the globe. - A Wednesday night pre-festival concert-dance, with San Diego’s own High Society and the Dave Bennett Quartet.

- Town & Country Thanksgiving Buffet with live music (Buffet not included with admission).

- A one-night-only multimedia presentation -- “Nouveau Stride” - featuring the amazing young pianist Stephanie Trick and singer/composer Lorraine Feather.

- Swing Dancing by 2toGroove and the Hang Ten Hoppers, with Sue Palmer and her Motel Swing Orchestra.

- Special sets: The music of Louis Armstrong and Harry Warren, Hot Dance Music of the ‘20s, the history of the washboard in Jazz and a Sunday morning “Hymn-a-Long.”

- The Memphis Boys, performing high-energy, Jerry Lee Lewis-inspired ‘50s Rock.

- Dance lessons by Hal and Georgia Meyers.

- Parasol Parades.

- Authentic New Orleans Jazz by the Euphoria Brass Band, Tim Laughlin/Connie Jones and the New Orleans All-Stars, the Red Pepper Jazz Band and the Grand Dominion Jazz Band.

- Swing Music by the Reynolds Brothers Rhythm Rascals, the Red Skunk Jipzee Swing Band and the Dave Bennett Quartet.

- Traditional Jazz by the Yerba Buena Stompers, Original Wild Cat Jass Band, Black Swan Classic Jazz Band, Titanic Jazz Band, Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band and the South Burgundy Street Jazz Band.

- A “Pianorama” featuring solo performances by a dozen Festival pianists.

- Banjo music by the San Diego Banjo Band and the San Fernando Valley Banjo Band.

- Exciting Traditional Jazz by young musicians -- The Mission Bay High Preservationists.

- Entertaining Jazz by Cornet Chop Suey, the Night Blooming Jazzmen, High Society Jazz Band, Nannette and her Hotsy Totsy Boys and Dixie Express.

- Guest appearances by Festival favorites Chloe Feoranzo and Katie Cavera.

- Vintage Ragtime and early Jazz by San Diego’s Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra.

- “JazzSea Jams” led by cornetist Dick Williams; an opportunity for musically-inclined festival patrons to jam with an organized band.

Over 40 hours of music in 7 venues—5 of them large enough to have double dance floors—traditional New Orlean’s jazz, swing, rockabilly, blues, ragtime, and Dixieland.
