Beauty - Shiny and Colorful but ....
It has been 6 months since the Photo Museum changed its main exhibit. It will be 6 more til this 2 rooms of photos moves on. It is this immobility of exhibits as much as their content and meagre offering that troubles me. I really like photography, I really do not like the operation of this museum.
As for this exhibit- what is it that gives it a high Squirm Factor? That is my honest reaction...discomfort and not for any outrage or strong concept. Am I alone in reacting to this as special effects as art? Did the use of way too cute and artificial black children as props not seem to others to have a wrong feel? Not cute, not otherworldly, let us say...peculiar and not quite right. I must say there is also a bit of that old big eyed children on velvet effect. There is a dazzle of color and detail, it is not uninteresting but it also is creepy in a way not having to do with art.
Eight bucks for 20 minutes in the gallery if you take your time. For me that is excessive. And given the impact....not recommended.
