Glyde Sports Bar and Gossip Bar and Lounge

401 E. Third Ave., San Mateo, CA, 94401
(650) 415-2320

It's a whole new vibe in San Mateo, a dance club, sports bar, and lounge all under one roof. Popping in after work, regulars take full advantage of Glyde’s famous happy hour, but when the sun slips over the horizon, this bar turns into San Mateo’s “Gossip Lounge “a club featuring DJs who keep the party going. If dancing isn't quite your gig, Glyde also sports a pool table and some comfortably couches to plop down on and take in the scene.

New but will go far

This place has only been open since July of 2007 but I can see it as being a big hit especially with the locals. since now they don't have to go to the City or to San Jose to dance, party and drink. They are trying to get a theme night going for each night and so far it has kinda worked out. For example 80s night on Thurs is a big hit but whenever they have comedy nights, it doesn't go over so well. Maybe because it's new. The place looks like a dive from the outside but on the inside it is awesome. They have many strategically placed big/flat screen TVs mounted on the walls, a pool table if you want to play billiards, several couches you can crash on and a moderate sized dancefloor with a DJ booth. Their menu right now is small but it is growing and will soon include many other favorites. Be sure to try the hot dog with the herb fries. Also, be sure to talk to the co- manager (Jared) and the bar tenders. They are nice and they know their drinks well. The reason I give it 4 stars is that parking is not that great as you may have to park around the back in front of several other stores or park downtown and walk in.
