For its intimate size, the sound quality is amazing at the Independent. No obscured views, a balcony, plenty of floor space and a bar that is adequately staffed (no tiresome waits for your drinks). Only downsides I can think of: Parking can be a chore and the bathroom requires a trek wading through a crowd. (Tip: Great spot to gather before the show: Waziema - an Ethiopian spot across the street: http://www.zvents.com/san-francisco-ca/venues/show/15107-club-waziema )

The Independent is a great venue for live music. The bar is well placed, the sound quality is the best I've heard in the area, it doesn't get too hot and the space isn't claustrophobia inducing. If you're looking for a great place to see music, this is it.
