Bruno Viscovi came to America from the hillside town of Albona, overlooking the Istrian Peninsula on the Adriatic Sea, located just southeast of Trieste on the borders of Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. After a lifetime of restaurant experience in the Bay Area, Bruno decided to open ALBONA restaurant in 1988 and he was determined to recreate the haunting flavors of his childhood. The memories of his palate are distinctively expressed with the only Istrian Menu on the West Coast. The unusual dishes and recipes of his region reflect the infusions from the Italians, Austrians, Hungarians, Slavs, Spaniards, French, Jews, Greeks, and Turks. Excellent reviews have appeared in many publications including the list of “The Bay Area’s Top 100 Restaurants” for eight consecutive years. Since 1988 ALBONA has welcomed the clients with personal service and the staff is delighted to share their knowledge of the history and cuisine of that complex Istrian region.
