The Golden Gate Yacht Club was founded in 1939, when members built the first clubhouse on a barge located in the San Francisco Marina. Fifty years later, the Loma Prieta Quake severely damaged the Club, but through the hard work and dedication of our members, the Club rose again to become the showcase facility that now exists.
Today, the GGYC is a popular cruise and regatta venue on the San Francisco waterfront, with a dynamic organization of members dedicated to boating fun -- both sail and power.
The GGYC also has the distinction of being the only US Challenger of Record for the America's Cup to be held in Valencia, Spain in 2007, and is proud to be the home port of BMW Oracle Racing.
