According to Fracchia, the events surrounding the Gold Rush have guided and shaped San Francisco into the famed tolerant and inclusive city it is today.

Charles A. Fracchia is the author of three books on the history of San Francisco. He lectures throughout the SF Bay Area on various aspects of the city's history.
