A stunning generation of young Cape Verdean vocalists is taking its place on the world stage, and one of the most enthralling is the 30-year-old singer, songwriter and guitarist Sara Tavares, who was born in Portugal to Cape Verdean parents. While her music is suffused with the West African archipelago’s lilting rhythms, Tavares has traveled a winding musical path, from teenage pop phenomenon to gospel crooner to buoyantly grooving chanteuse.
