The beloved, award-winning Edwardian Ball takes over the historic Regency Center (SF) on January 23rd-25th in a symphony of music, theatre, dance, art, storytelling, circus arts, fashion, technology, and the works of Edward Gorey. The festival features a new lineup of top-billing national acts including Rasputina (NYC), Vau de Vire Society (SF), Rosin Coven (SF), Cirque Berzerk (Los Angeles), Abney Park (Seattle), Jill Tracy (SF), Paul Mercer & The Ghosts Project (Atlanta), and countless more. Furthermore, the Edwardian Ball finally takes flight and heads south for the winter the following weekend for the first-ever Edwardian Ball Los Angeles, at the Tower Theater in downtown LA on Saturday January 31st.

Since 1999 The Edwardian Ball has steadily grown from an underground club phenomenon into a full-fledged festival of arts and culture, focusing on the esteemed works of the late, great author/illustrator Edward Gorey. Now, with the blessings of The Edward Gorey Charitable Trust, this four-night run of everything under the midnight sun reaches across cultural boundaries to include audiences of all ages and backgrounds, where literary fans are as welcome as goth clubgoers, where the high flying trapeze and steam-powered machines create the backdrop for elegantly dressed ballgoers waltzing their way into the antique portrait studio. Here, the old world meets the world-to-be with an unforgettable tip of the top hat, curtsey, and a splash of absinthe poured over a silver spoon.

Fri 1/23 – The Edwardian World's Faire: Rasputina, Abney Park, Kinetic Steam Works, Dark Garden Corsetry, City Circus, Vima Dance, Kitten on the Keys

Sat 1/24 – The Ninth Annual Edwardian Ball: Rosin Coven, Vau de Vire Society, Cirque Berzerk, Jill Tracy, Miz Margo, DJ Delachaux, ballroom dancing, portrait studio

Born and raised in Kansas, Creager comes from a musical family and received classical training. At 18 she moved to New York City to attend Parsons School of Design. While majoring in photography she began playing her cello in rock bands and became involved with drag performers.
Jill Tracy
Jill Tracy Remove performer from this event
Jill Tracy is both villainess and heroine of her own musical netherworld. The San Francisco-based artist has garnered multiple awards and a devoted following for her evocative cinematic music, sophisticated lyrics, old-world glamour, and curious passion for strange tales.
Abney Park
Abney Park Remove performer from this event
Abney Park comes from an era that never was, but one that we wish had been. An era where airships waged war in the skies, and corsets and cummerbunds were proper adventuring attire. They’ve picked up their bad musical habits, scoundrelous musicians, and anachronistically hybridized...
Vau de Vire Society
Vau de Vire Society Remove performer from this event
Spawned from the depths of San Francisco’s thriving Dance and Circus sub-cultures, the Vau de Vire Society has ravaged and titillated the live entertainment scene causing jaws to drop in awe and admiration around the Bay Area and beyond.

Cello metal with goth influences

Or is it vice versa? Either way, what's not to like? I try to catch them (at ever bigger venues) whenever they come to town.
