Earplay new music ensemble’s 24th annual season opens with an engaging tapestry of an all-American program by composers Elliott Carter, Pablo Furman, Jennifer Higdon, William Kraft and Eric Zivian.
The Bay Area’s vibrant and diverse new music scene features the premier of commissioned composer Eric Zivian’s bold and dashing Trio For Clarinet, Cello And Piano (Peter Josheff, Daniel Reiter, with the composer at the piano) along with the prominent San Jose composer, Pablo Furman, with his impassioned Sureña for violin (Graeme Jennings) and electronics.
Mary Chun conducts the Earplayers, a group of six outstanding Bay Area musicians: Tod Brody, flute and piccolo; Peter Josheff, clarinet and bass clarinet; Terrie Baune, violin; Ellen Ruth Rose, viola; Thalia Moore, cello, and Karen Rosenak, piano. In October they are joined by exceptional Bay Area artists, Rufus Olivier, bassoon, Graeme Jennings, violin, Dan Reiter, cello, Michael Seth Orland, piano.
