For lovers of Brazilian music, Brazilian Independence Day Party provides you with an evening that spans the breadth and diversity that only Brazil can offer. Giving you a taste of such diversity, Sambada, Bak Makumba and Sambamora Dance Company with Loco Bloco will be bringing the Afro-Brazilian funk so you can shake it in style.

SAMBADA

While it has been argued that Brazilian music in general is marked by a fusion of influences only fitting for a country with such diversity of ethnicities, cultures, and races, Sambada offers a new take on Brazil's worldly music that brings the frenetic carnival vibe of Rio's sambas. There is an edge to their music, and a funk energy.

BAT MAKUMBA
Bat Makumba is the crossroads between the equatorial beats of Brazil and the punk, rock and funk influences of the U.S. and Europe. Bat Makumba’s show is a hip renegade carnaval party full of tropicalia tinged ska, punk influenced forro, and rock infused samba. Since their debut in 2000 Bat Makumba have garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base throughout the West Coast. Named after the 70s classic Tropicalia song by Caetano Veloso + Gilberto Gil (popularized by Os Mutantes), "Bat Makumba" loosely translates to mean the mixing of Brazilian traditionalism with international pop culture. Don't miss this kinetic, percussive music.

SAMBAMORA DANCE COMPANY

Opening the show will be one of San Francisco's most explosive traditional Brazilian dance troupe Sambamora Dance Company accompanied by the drumming troupe Loco Bloco. For the past ten years, Loco Bloco has brought its explosion of rhythm, movement, color and passion to the streets of the Mission District for San Francisco's Carnaval. DJ Fausto Sousa spins traditional, classical Brazilian beats between sets.
