magic bullets
"building on the legacy of uk post-punk legends gang of four and nyc bands like the feelies, the bullets’ cross-reference indie contemporaries such as the walkmen with a vintage twist of call-and-response added to the sonic mix." --7x7 magazine
"the emotional candor and jerky rhythms of the '80s post-punk era to carve a wistful but upbeat niche for itself in san francisco's indie-pop scene." --sf chronicle

phil wilson
back in the mid-'80s, phil wilson released exciting noise-pop as part of the june brides (a 2006 tribute record featured liner notes by dave eggers and covers by jeffrey lewis). Influenced by postcard-label bands such as josef k and punk-era bands such as the desperate bicycles and the television personalities, the june brides mix of guitar pop with viola and trumpet formed a blueprint for many of the c86 bands that would follow. Now, 20 years after retirement from music, wilson has taken up music again, playing his originals and covers of indie tunes of his era. This is a rare chance to see a cult legend.

the mantles
"the mantles are a san francisco pop [quartet] with a slightly vague and very interesting sound. What they create is a vibe somewhere betwen the crisp gauze of midwest groups associated with the early 80s garage revival (vertebrats, plasticland, etc) and the mysto-stroke of late 80s new zealand. The join isn't absolutely smooth, but it's cool and appreciable, and I'm sure this disc would appeal to any fan of either style." --the wire
