Cinema Arts Program: The Animated Mind McBean Theater, 2:00 p.m. These films are presented in conjunction with the Exploratorium's new Mind collection. Ryan (2004, 13 min.), directed by Chris Landreth, is a tribute to Ryan Larkin, who produced some of the most influential animated films of his time at the National Film Board of Canada. Landreth's hand-animated film creates a psychological world in which people are at once humorous, thought-provoking, and disturbing. Winner of the 2004 Academy Award for Animated Short Film. Mindscape (1976, 7 min.), by Jacques Drouin, uses pinscreen animation techniques to create a world in which an artist steps inside his painting and wanders a landscape of symbols, triggering unexpected associations.
