Cinema Arts Program: On the Margins McBean Theater, 2:00 p.m. Ever feel like school just wasn't your thing? Come watch an intriguing mash-up of films examining outsiders and mavericks in the field of learning and education. We'll look at schools where kids make the rules and music camps for misfit rockers; we'll also explore the Exploratorium's legacy as a place where square pegs have made a unique home for themselves. The Explainers (2008, 20 min.), by Bryan J. Welch, is a short documentary on our local onsite youth program. Every semester, the Exploratorium hires a few dozen students to serve as museum floor staff, answering questions, explaining exhibits, and dissecting things like cow eyeballs for wide-eyed visitors. This documentary takes a look at the museum's High School Explainer Program—part job, part science academy, part family—and reveals why many alumni call their experience ?the best job ever.? The program will also include clips from various archival and contemporary documentaries.
