The Shuck & Swallow Oyster Challenge, which is free and open for public viewing, will take place on the West Plaza in Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco. The event includes approximately fifteen teams, each consisting of two members from various Bay Area restaurants, competing to shuck and eat as many oysters as possible in 10 minutes. The current record is just under 200.
The judges’ panel includes members of the The Marine Mammal Center and assorted Bay Area media personalities.
An oyster and wine pairing will immediately follow the Shuck & Swallow Oyster Challenge and will be held at McCormick & Kuleto’s Seafood Restaurant. A variety of types of oysters will be available for tasting along with an assortment of wines. Tickets, available at the door, are $25.00 per person with the net proceeds being donated to The Marine Mammal Center. The pairing will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and guests are welcome to eat and drink as many oysters and wine samples as they like. Live musical entertainment will accompany the Challenge and the benefit event.
