The historic WOODLAWN THEATRE opened in 1946 as an elegant venue for Hollywood films. The theatre’s architect, John Eberson, also constructed San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre. The WOODLWAN THEATRE was the home of the world premier of “The Alamo” in 1960 starring John Wayne, in which he also made his directorial debut.
It wasn’t until 1975 when the theatre was placed under new ownership by one of San Antonio’s most respected movie theatre companies, Santiko Theaters. In 1986, Paramount was honored to showcase their world premier of the most amazing laser light show in history, “Paramount’s Laser Spectacular”, which sold out nationwide.
During the 90's the theatre became a performance venue for live theatre troupes, including both comedic and childrens theatre.
