It's difficult to find a country performer who has moved from country roots to international fame more successfully than Dolly Parton. Her autobiographical single "Coat of Many Colors" shows the poverty of growing up one of 12 children on a run-down farm in Locust Ridge, TN.

DOLLY

I only have one thing to say to your comment, what a load of crap!!! dolly is one of thee best artist that this world has ever seen, she touches people of all ages and sex with her incrediable songwriting and singing gifts..people like you need to see behind the make up, wigs and everything else and see the person underneath it all. Dolly is an amazing person and has managed to help people all over the world, not to mention the endless charity work and continious donations to different projects, not many artists have the credibility that dolly has, which she has rightfully earned through these years, and after 40 years in the business she is still going strong, cant say that about many other artists these days can you !!!!!!

An Icon, but not a Role Model

Dolly impresses me in the same was way a silicon dish impresses me when it withstands the heat of an oven. The silicone may be the end of the similarities between these two though.

Dolly Parton is to country what Vanilla Ice was to Rap. Definitely a big player, but in the end, a joke. If not for her giant rack, there would be no reason whatsoever for her to show her face in public again. After expressing her political beliefs, and thereby attempting to step out of her realm, she really exposed the trailer trash within, and any good she may have done through charity is now null in my ethics book.
