She asked Nikki Murphy, Community Programs Coordinator to explain. “The Rhythm of the Seasons….It jerks you from slumber – the blaring noise of the alarm clock that wakes you long before the sun peaks over the horizon. You stumble out of your warm bed in search of coffee, grumbling about how birds don’t… Show more even get up this early. And you’re right. Birds and other animals are waiting for the rays of the sun to wake them for the day. But even as some wake, others are just bedding down to rest; a circadian rhythm of light and dark that rules the natural world.”
“Cycles such as the rise and set of the sun and moon, the change of the seasons and even slight shifts in temperature alert nature’s creatures to join the rhythm of the world around them. Subtle (and not so subtle) cues take place every day; beckoning animals and plants to interact in the delicate balance of their ecosystem.”
“Interwoven among these cycles are rhythms of nature’s chorus: wind blowing, leaves rustling, birds calling. This chorus is the in the forefront of the animal world and somewhere in the background of ours. Amid the modern world’s honking horns, buzzing machines and dinging of texts, humans crave this rhythm of the natural world. It not only soothes and calms, it is the inspiration for musical expression now and through the ages.”

Experience the rhythms of nature and music. Dave Holland (a CNC favorite special entertainer), brings The Art of Noise to the Chattahoochee Nature Center on Saturday, February 23 at 11am and 12 noon. Dave’s energetic and interactive style brings rhythm to life from seemingly ordinary objects. It’s an art, music and rhythm making family extravaganza where YOU are PART of the sound. Find your natural rhythms in the Nature Exchange and try out instruments made from nature from 1-3pm. At 1pm, enjoy our Rock and Read Story Time with a beat. Tap and clap along with this fun rhythmic story told by one of our favorite storytellers. All day we’ll be challenging your ears with our Winter Sounds Scavenger Hunt, so try to find the sounds that make winter anything but silent. Finish with Campfire Treats from 1 - 4pm. After rocking to the rhythm, join Camp Kingfisher at the campfire and drink some hot chocolate and roast that perfect golden brown marshmallow. All ages, included with general admission.
