Trampled by Turtles is Dave Simonett, Tim Saxhaug (bass, vocals), Dave Carroll (banjo, vocals), Erik Berry and Ryan Young (fiddle). Within the contained music scene of Duluth, the members of the band did their own time in punk and rock bands, brandishing their electricity proudly before switching to acoustic instruments. While they never set out to be a "bluegrass" band, Trampled by Turtles employs many of the same traditional techniques… Show more of the genre, but their differences in influences, attitude and attack make for their unique sound. Along the way their one-of-a-kind live show and a video for the song "Wait So Long," built them legions of fans.
In their 10th year performing together, the Turtles continue to receive praise for their new album Stars and Satellites available now on Thirty Tigers/RED. The album is described by Associated Press as having a "rich colour scheme of sounds, often working out intricate figures that lock so tightly it's impossible to unravel just what's going on" and the band is Billboard's #1 Bluegrass Album Artist of 2012. To celebrate the new release, the band performed on "The Prairie Home Companion," "The Late Show with David Letterman," "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," and PBS' "Lowertown Line" hosted by Dessa and filmed in St. Paul.
The band will continue to support the new release with tour dates throughout the U.S. In honor of their massive tour schedule and prime slots at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits Festival, Outside Lands, Sasquatch! Music Festival, Firefly, Newport Folk Festival and many more, Pollstar featured the band on their October 2012 cover.
