Wednesday, Oct 16, 2013 7:30p

Actress, playwright, professor, and social critic Anna Deavere Smith has been hailed by Newsweek as “the most exciting individual in American Theatre.” While perhaps best known for her roles in The West Wing and Showtime’s Nurse Jackie, Smith’s work in theater has been a central part of her artistic life.

When granted the prestigious MacArthur Award, her work was described as “a blend of theatrical art, social commentary, journalism, and intimate reverie.”
