Description Expand the horizons of watercolors and learn ways to incorporate other media. Discover methods for including watercolor pencils, collage, ink and/or resist with various watercolor techniques to achieve dynamic, personal results and tell your own expressive stories. Class includes demos and time for your own artwork. Materials List If you are unsure, just bring what you have. Start with basic Watercolor materials, listed here, then choose from suggestions that follow after. Paints: Professional… Show more quality watercolor tube paints, such as Winsor & Newton, Holbein, Senlier, etc. (?Economy/Student? lines from these companies or others, such as Cotman and Academy are Ok for starters, but upgrade when possible.) Any colors you choose. These are just some basics: Yellow: Aureolin, New Gamboge, etc. Red: Rose Madder, Permanent Rose, Cad. Red Deep, Aliz. Crimson, etc. Blue: Cobalt, Ultramarine, Manganese Hue, etc. Optional: Permanent Magenta/Cobalt Violet, Viridian/Permanent Green Lt, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna/Yellow Ochre, etc. Paper: Good quality (professional, acid free) watercolor paper or support, such as D?Arches140lb cold press, cut/torn down to size you want to work with, or other good quality brands in sheets, pads or block. (Economy/practice/student pads, i.e. Strathmore, etc. won?t respond as well.) Brushes: Any two or more good synthetic or combination watercolor brushes: round sizes # 10-16. Optional: flats (1/2? ? 1 ½?). Palette: Professional or improvised, with flat square/rectangular mixing space(s), (or several yogurt container lids, but not small round palette!) Palette may be open, folded, with or without cover, 8-20 paint wells. If already loaded, take care to keep level/horizontal even if covered!) Board/Support: (Not needed for WC blocks, just for single sheets.) Styrofoam covered with clear or white contact paper, plexi-glass or any board that won?t absorb water or stain paper when wet, cut to at least ¼ ? larger than the paper you are using all the way around. Two or more clips/clothes pins and a small block of Styrofoam or wood or any object that can be used to tilt the board temporarily while working. Also: Two large water containers, and extra lids (empty yogurt, etc.), absorbent towel, rags or soft, absorbent paper towels. Optional: Regular natural household or small elephant-ear sponge, water spritzer spray bottle. Sketchbook or paper for taking notes. (See Additional Suggestions below) Suggestions For Other Media To Mix With Watercolors: Choose only a few from the list below (not all!) you?d like to bring to experiment with. Instructor will demonstrate with many, but you may come up with more ideas for your own needs and interests. ? Watercolor pencils/crayons ? Colored pencils ? Oil crayons/Craypas/ children's wax crayons/ candle for resist ? Water soluble oil crayons ? Water soluble and/or permanent ink pens, flow pens/brushes, etc. ? Gouache (opaque watercolor) ? Parts of drawings, W.C. paintings, journal writing, old letters, etc., to tear/cut-up/paste on for collage ? Tissue paper, non-bleed or bleeding, scraps of wrapping paper, etc. ? Sumi-E rice paper ? Sumi- inks with brushes ? Yes! Glue or white paste for collage. (Caution: acrylic mediums may be used under collage pieces, but will create a resist if on top surface, which you may or may not want.) ? Bristle brush (for scrubbing) ?
