Alex Albright, The Forgotten First: B-1 and the Integration of the Modern Navy
This regimental band from North Carolina was comprised of the first African Americans to serve in the modern Navy at rank higher than messman. Most were from Greensboro. Stationed at Chapel Hill and Pearl Harbor, they were the largest American military band in the Pacific Theater.
