Rattley has found inspiration for his most recent body of work in his own life. In 2007, Rattley's childhood friend, Curtis DeAngelo "DD" Lennon, was killed in an apparent home invasion. Through a series of self portraits, Rattley shows various expressions of anger, resignation, and sadness. Rattley explains that painting has always been therapeutic for him, and felt that the only way to address his friend's death was to incorporate it into the visual language of art.
