Mebane T. Faber, Caia, CMT
Portfolio Manager, Cambria Investment Management
Investment bubbles and speculative manias have likely existed for as long as humans have been involved in markets. Can investors avoid the popping of these bubbles and the extreme volatility and losses they produce in their aftermath to survive to invest another day? How can an investor… Show more identify and then profit from these bubbles and crashes? We’ll apply a valuation metric, proposed by Graham and Dodd and later popularized by Shiller (Cape), across more than thirty foreign markets. The metric, which is both practical and useful, will reveal even greater examples of bubbles and busts abroad than in the United States. We'll then create a trading system to build global stock portfolios based on valuation, and find significant outperformance by selecting markets based on relative and absolute valuation.
