Thomas Cole was a celebrated painter and founder of the Hudson River School, an American art movement that flourished in the mid-19th century. He is best known for his landscape paintings of untamed America in the 1820-40s. Cole was also a conservational visionary whose ideas on the natural world heralded the sense of American identity that we know today. This exhibit is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and is toured by Mid-America Arts Alliance.
