The Alameda County Agricultural Fair Association operates the Alameda County Fair. We are a private, non-profit corporation, and we are responsible for producing the annual Fair as well as other select events.
Other events during the year are produced by outside promoters who rent our facilities. The Alameda County Fair Association staff supervises all events. The Association is completely self-supporting, and receives no funding from tax revenue.
The Alameda County Fair originated in 1859 as a Floral Fair. The first modern-day Fair was held in 1939, and has been held annually with the exception of the war years.
The Alameda County Fair racetrack is the oldest one-mile horse racing track in America, dating back to 1858. The sons of Spanish Don Augustin Bernal constructed it, and wealthy horse owners shipped their horses from the east to Pleasanton for training during the winter months.

I have attended many fairs and was very disappointed when visiting the
Pleasanton fair last weekend (07/10/10). The admission and parking fees are
understood, but the excessively over priced food and drinks spoiled the entire
fair. The prices were so high that there were very few booths that had more
than 1 person in line at a time. I noticed most of the children walking
around with no food or drinks. Isn't this what the fair is all about? I am
not a cheap person and expect like most people to have slightly inflated
prices, but I can say that the prices at this fair are so high that all this
is going to do is choke the business and make people not return (like myself).
I will not be back. The last straw was after ordering a heineken at the
sports bar. They charged me 12.00 for a glass of beer.. you can't tell me
this is not ridiculous.
