Disobedience: The Sousa Mendes Story

Wednesday, Mar 13, 2013 10:30a
CinéArts Pleasant Hill, CA

As the Nazis invade France, nearly ten million refugees flee the advancing enemy troops and rush south to Bordeaux. Many flock to the Portuguese Consulate where they ask Consul General Aristides de Sousa Mendes for life-saving visas to his country. He must decide whether to ignore his government’s ruling that closes Portugal’s borders to undesirables, specifically Jews, or follow his own conscience. In French/Yiddish/Portuguese w/ English subtitles.
