Under African Skies
1986-Legendary songwriter Paul Simon journeyed to South Africa to make the seminal and controversial album Graceland. The album opened a window into underexposed South African music. However, some complained that showcasing the music of South Africa gave legitimacy to the country’s apartheid government. 2011-Simon returns to South Africa for a 25th anniversary concert, continuing the debate as to whether the breaking of musical boundaries was worth disobeying the boycott of the apartheid system.
