“unwrapped”, an exhibition of shibori dyed quilts by Jan Myers-Newbury
The wall-mounted quilted textiles feature fabrics dyed by the artist using her own variations of traditional shibori techniques. Shibori is a Japanese term for various methods of creating pattern on cloth by wrapping on a pole, twisting, compressing, stitching, folding or clamping before dyeing. Design becomes a process of discovering relationships among these fabrics. This is the kismet of the creation process, an unwrapped surprise.
