Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra: Beethoven's Ninth

Sunday, Apr 28, 2013 2:30p
Heinz Hall Pittsburgh, PA

As part of the Music for the Spirit Festival concert, Manfred Honeck and the PSO pay tribute to the good in mankind. The Gift, commissioned by the PSO in honor of long-time Board Chair Richard P. Simmons, makes its premiere. Beethoven’s final symphonic masterpiece is one of the most recognizable pieces of all time. Its text is taken from Friedrich Schiller’s poem, “Ode to Joy,” which celebrates harmony among mankind.
