Talk on Chaco Fractal Architecture by Charly Gullett

Thursday, Feb 14, 2013 7:00p to 9:00p

Charly will demonstrate that the design and engineering of the beautiful multistory pueblos in Chaco Canyon, N.M., used mathematic principles that were not even scientifically mainstream until Benoit Mandelbrot first coined the term "fractal" in the 1970's. The use of fractals in the masonry of Chaco shows that prehistoric peoples understood these complex geometric principles. Charly will show how these ancient peoples used their knowledge to build pueblos throughout the Southwest.
