The Phoenix Symphony come together for an explosive and romantic performance of Liszt’s Dante Symphony. Based on Dante Alighieri’s journey through hell and purgatory, as depicted in The Divine Comedy, is paired with Antonio Estévez’s dramatic La Cantata Criolla, Venezuela’s best-known nationalistic composition. Based on a poem by Alberto Arvelo Torrealba called “Florentino and the Devil”, the chorus combines to colorfully paint a tale of a singing contest between the two title characters.
