The Philadelphia Orchestra -- Beethoven's Seventh
Christoph von Dohnányi presents a program of German masterpieces. In his Symphony No. 7, Beethoven uses the smallest amount of material to craft a symphony for the ages. The success of Brahms’s Haydn Variations gave the composer the confidence to complete his long-awaited First Symphony. Philadelphia Orchestra Principal Clarinet Ricardo Morales performs the virtuosic Clarinet Concerto No. 1 by Carl Maria von Weber, which was premiered in 1811, the same year as Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony.
