Prism Quartet and Curtis 20/21 perform John Cage's Thirteen
The Prism Saxophone Quartet and Curtis Institute of Music present a program that includes Cage’s rarely performed Thirteen (1992), the final composition he completed. With merely time brackets and instructions for long tones to be played quietly while the dynamics of the shorter ones are left to the performer's discretion, Thirteen’s score requires each performer to consider what's occurring around her and the impact of each contribution on the gestalt, and wholeness of the piece.
