Anthony da Costa is "Not Afraid of Nothing." At least, that's what he titled his new record, the eighth he's released to date. An MSNBC.com 2009 Top 5 Up&Coming Young Singer and Folk Alliance "Emerging Artist of the Year" nominee, Anthony's music combines folk, rock, Americana and pop, plus what it's like to be "a very, very young man, with a very, very old soul," as legendary NYC disc jockey, Pete Fornatele, called him. In 2007, at age 16, he became the youngest winner ever at the Falcon Ridge and Kerrville Folk Festivals. In 2008, at 17, he: released two, criticallyacclaimed albums; played top folk festivals, including Kerrville, Falcon Ridge, Philadelphia and Tonder in Denmark; and opened for music icons, like Loretta Lynn and Dan Bern. Now, in 2009, at age 18 and a freshman at Columbia University, he's venturing into new musical territory with "Not Afraid of Nothing." While one foot's in folk, the other foot's loose and wandering into various genres, influenced by the work of artists ranging from Ryan Adams to The Smiths. In November 2009, Anthony will perform in Scotland; on January 2, he'll open for legendary Texas singersongwriter, Guy Clark in Virginia; the following night, he's especially proud to be kicking off The Psalm Salon's 2010 series. "To witness a performance by Anthony da Costa is akin to being invited into a friend's living room. He'll pull out a guitar, then casually say, 'I wrote this song because I was thinking of…', then proceed to share a work of art." Richard Cuccaro, Publisher, Acoustic Live "Anthony da Costa is one of our most promising folk musicians." Geoffrey Himes, Washington Post "Anthony da Costa continues to demonstrate that he is an outstanding writer of unadorned, plainspoken Americana. Although he cites Dan Bern, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan as influences, the songs (on his 2008 records) much more echo the classic Texas songwriting tradition of Steve Earle, Guy Clark or even Townes Van Zandt." Scott Sheldon, Sing Out! Magazine "Ryan Adams. Gillian Welch & David Rawlings. Conor Oberst. Cory Branan. These are names that are thrown around a lot when you are talking about modern day singer/songwriters. What if I told you there may be someone not just like them, but better? Anthony da Costa might just be." Eli Petersen, Twangville www.anthonydacosta.com General Admission $16.00
