Climax

Formed in 1971 in Los Angeles, California, Climax was the idea of vocalist Sonny Geraci (b. 1947, Cleveland, Ohio, USA), formerly of the US chart-topping group the Outsiders. Their guitarist Walter Nims, who was also a member of the Outsiders. Completing the group were session man Steve York (bass) - formerly of East Of Eden and Manfred Mann’s Chapter Three, Virgil Weber (keyboards) and Robert Neilson (drums). Climax was a considerably softer group than the Outsiders. The group was signed to the small Carousel label and recorded a Nims ballad, ‘Precious And Few’, which became a US number 3 hit in early 1972. A second chart single, ‘Life And Breath’, this time for Rocky Road Records, marked the end of Climax’s stay on the US charts. The group recorded one self-titled album in 1972, which was a minor success. Geraci has maintained the group as a part-time venture, while Steve York went on to join Vinegar Joe and has continued his career as an in-demand session player, recording with, amongst others, Joan Armatrading, Marianne Faithfull and Charlie Musselwhite as well as recording a solo album, Manor Live in 1973, under the name of Steve York’s Camelo Pardalis. ~ Rovi
