Christine Lahti

Christine Lahti (born Apr. 4, 1950 in Birmingham, MI) is an actress and film director. After graduating from the University of Michigan, she moved to New York City where she began acting in commercials.

She made her feature film debut in 1979's "... And Justice For All" starring Al Pacino and John Forsythe. Her next big role came in 1984 when she co-starred in the movie "Swing Shift" for which shed was nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Supporting Actress.

In 1987 she starred in the controversial TV miniseries "Amerika" - which featured a dystopian United States that had been captured by the Soviet Union. Her role as Alethea Milford earned her Emmy® Award and Golden Globe® Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries. The following year she would against be nominated for a Golden Globe®, this time in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her duel roles as Annie Pope and Cynthia Manfield in "Running on Empty."

Perhaps her most well-known roll came in the 2nd half of the 1990s when she played Dr. Kathryn Austin on the hit TV series "Chicago Hope." Lahti would be nominated for four Emmy® Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress (1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999) winning the honor once in '98. That year she also won the Golden Globe® for Best Actress in a TV Series Drama.

In 1995 Lahti won an Academy Award® for Live Action Short Film for the film "Lieberman in Love" for which she also directed. She has received two more Golden Globe® nominations and continues to pick and choose certain acting roles.

She has been married to TV director Thomas Schlamme since 1993 and the couple have three children.
