Paul Murphy is an early second-generation avant-garde jazz drummer. Based in N.Y.C. in the '70s, his most notable regular jazz job was in Jimmy Lyons' bands and on several of Lyons' recordings. In addition to his jazz past, Murphy also has a lot of commercial studio and touring experience. He has played live with Ike and Tina Turner, Journey, and in a variety of Las Vegas shows. The end of the '90s found Murphy living in Washington D.C., frequenting jazz label Mapleshade as a studio drummer. ~ Joslyn Layne, All Music Guide
