Caleb was the name under which guitarist Caleb Quaye released one single, "Baby Your Phrasing Is Bad" b/w "Woman of Distinction," on the U.K. Philips label in 1967. A true rarity, as it never charted or made much of an impression on anyone except collectors willing to pay high prices for it. Apart from drummer (and singer) David Hynes, a member of the Philips-signed, Hertford-based psychedelic band the Mirage (who had also played with Joe Brown and subsequently joined the Spencer Davis Group), the sidemen on the heavily phased recording have never been identified officially, but it's been rumored for decades that Reg Dwight (aka Elton John) was on the keyboards. Quaye played on Elton John's early albums and also formed Hookfoot, but this '60s release was his major contribution to freakbeat/psychedelia. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
