After Washington, D.C.'s Q and Not U called it quits in 2005, drummer John Davis teamed with singer/songwriter Laura Burhenn to form Georgie James, a name that refers to an imaginary, androgynous singer in the vein of Ziggy Stardust. Using inspiration from their mutual love for the Zombies, the Kinks, and Simon & Garfunkel, the duo's harmonies and melodies were a step away from Q and Not U's more aggressive, experimental approach. Burhenn (vocals, keyboard) and Davis (vocals, guitar, bass, drums) issued a three-track single, Need Your Needs, through Burhenn's own Laboratory Records in early 2007, which followed limited demos available only at shows. Their debut full-length, Places, recorded with Chad Clark of Beauty Pill and T.J. Lipple of Aloha, was released in autumn 2007 by Saddle Creek. Bassist Paul Michel and drummer Andrew Black complemented the duo during live shows, and Georgie James toured America and Europe in support of Places. However, the group disbanded in August 2008, with Burhenn and Davis citing the desire to pursue separate projects. ~ Kenyon Hopkin, All Music Guide
