An indie band out of Silverlake, CA, that mixes a garage rock edge with radio-friendly melodies and a grunge sensibility, Shapes of Race Cars were formed after singer, guitarist, and songwriter Dylan Callaghan dissolved his previous band, Champion, and began working with bassist Dale Zyla and drummer Josh Grolemund. The trio self-released the Apocalypse Hurts EP (made up of what the band terms "bedroom demos") in 2005 and garnered a good deal of local airplay and critical press for it, following it up with a full-length album, Power, recorded at Hot Pie Studios in Pasadena with producer Jun Murakawa, on Tiger Team Records in 2007. Shortly after the album was released, the band expanded to a quartet with the addition of guitarist and background singer Chas Smith. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
