The Pussycat Dolls (also known as PCD) is an American entertainment franchise founded by choreographer Robin Antin. The brand is most well known as a pop and RnB musical group.
Originating in 1995 as a burlesque troupe based in Los Angeles, and after attracting national attention, Antin negotiated a record deal with A&M and Interscope Records in 2003 and the troupe was transformed into a music group. Subsequently, the franchise was expanded and diversified from the musical group into reality television programs, a Las Vegas act, merchandising and other ventures overseen by Antin, Interscope, and their partners.
The current lineup of the musical/recording/touring group which represents the brand is a quintet composed of Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts, and Kimberly Wyatt.
Throughout their rise to fame, the recording group has been criticized for its overtly sexual image and explicit dance routines and for the over-emphasis on Nicole Scherzinger, who sings nearly all of the group's lead and background vocals, as well as receiving the most screen time on their music videos.
