Inspired by Irish music and psychedelic rock, Valerie Rose began her career as a fiddle player in her mid-twenties. Growing up with lessons in guitar, singing, piano, and other instruments, she became fascinated with artists like the Bothy Band and Mary Black, and started moving in that direction. After picking up the fiddle, she worked with several Celtic bands and brought the moody minimalism of psychedelic pop (another childhood favorite) to whoever she worked with. Eventually she recorded Petals of Stone, her debut, in 2002 and released it during the summer of that year. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
