Cillian Murphy (born May 25, 1975 in Douglas, Cork, Ireland) is a film and theatre actor. Murphy begin acting on stage in 1996 in "Disco Pigs" by Enda Walsh. He acted in his first short him in '97 and received his first feature film role in 1998's "The Tale of Sweet Barrett."
Murphy made his first major screen appearance as the lead character, Jim, in the 2002 horror thriller "28 Days Later." His performance garnered much attention and saw him begin to be cast in large movies as primary roles. 2005 would prove to be Murphy's most successful year to date, participating in three movies: the Scarecrow in "Batman Begins," the villainous Jackson Rippner in "Red Eye," and the transgendered Patrick "Kitten" Braden in "Breakfast on Pluto." For his role as Kitten, Murphy received a 2006 Golden Globe® nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy.
Murphy continues to act in films and some theatre, though mostly in the United Kingdom.
