Paradoxical New York-based Southern rock revivalists the Suntanama feature vocalist Darren Zoltowski, guitarists Keith Connolly and John Allen, bassist Dave Shuford, and drummer Robert Gregory. Shuford and Connolly are also part of the acclaimed free folk outfit the No-Neck Blues Band. The Suntanama made their debut in 2001 with The Wishing Song/Roll On, a 7" on New World of Sound that introduced their mix of folk, blues, and boogie rock. Their self-titled debut album, which was produced by Neil Hagerty, arrived next year on Drag City, which they followed in 2003 with Another. That year, the group also appeared on You Can Never Go Fast Enough, a tribute to the classic gearhead movie Two Lane Blacktop that also featured contributions from Wilco, Sonic Youth, Calexico, and Charalambides. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
